A major rescue operation was conducted in Uttarakhand after around 30 trekkers got stranded on the Tungnath–Chandrashila trek due to a sudden storm and heavy snowfall.
The incident occurred on Saturday evening around 5:30 PM, when Dial 112 received an alert that 25–30 trekkers were stuck on the Chandrashila route. Strong winds, snowfall, and poor visibility created dangerous conditions, raising serious concerns for their safety.
Following the alert, multiple agencies immediately launched a coordinated rescue operation. Teams from Kotwali Ukhimath, Chopta Outpost, SDRF, District Disaster Management Authority, and the Forest Department rushed to the location.
Despite challenging terrain and blizzard-like weather, the rescue teams managed to trace the stranded trekkers and reach them in time.
After several hours of effort, all 30 trekkers were successfully rescued and brought back to Chopta. They were provided with first aid and necessary assistance before being sent safely to their respective destinations.
District Disaster Management Officer Nandan Singh Rajwar confirmed that the trekkers were stranded due to sudden snowfall and storm but were rescued without any casualties.
Authorities have urged trekkers and tourists to check weather forecasts before heading into high-altitude regions. They emphasized the importance of preparedness and following safety guidelines, as weather conditions in the mountains can change rapidly.
