Camping in Chopta

Chopta has many meadows in the region which are perfect for camping and earlier camping was very popular in Chopta, Burjgali, Baniyakund, Duggalbita and in Deoriatal.

Camping in Chopta is one of the best way to explore the region which is full of adventure. For adventure seekers and nature lovers camping is a good way to enjoy its tranquility, greenery and beautiful panoramic scenic view of snow clad Himalayan peaks.

Ban on Camping in Chopta

As per the an order of Hon High Court of Uttarakhand, there is a complete ban on camping in the meadows of Uttarakhand which includes the meadows of Chopta as well. DFO Rudraprayag, Forest Department Uttarakhand has claimed that most of the Dome Tents/ Swiss Tents/ Cottages are erected illegally on the meadows of Chopta mostly on forest land.

We are not taking booking of any such tents or cottages untill further notice.

We would to clarify that we DO NOT own or operate any such tents/ cottages/ huts that violate the law or court order. We are only a travel agency offering tour packages for Chopta.

Chopta Camping Charge and Forest Fees

Chopta Forest Fees/Entry Fees: This region is a reserve forest area. So there is an entry pass to be made at the start where a forest guard sits. If you take once, you can use it for the entire destination in Kedar Valley Bio Reserve Destinations.

Chopta Camping Tips

  • Check whether camping is allowed or not in Chopta
  • Try to book camping package from local guide or operator. So that he can arrange all the permits, meals and even guide you during the trek.
  • Carry first aid kids, basic medicines and toiletries with you
  • As there will toilet tents (with dry pits), do carry toilet roll and sanitizers
  • If you are hygienic freak, then you must carry your own sleeping bag, otherwise generally the sleeping bags provided during the camping are neat and clean.
